BayPath's LGBTQ+ Initiative has been visiting various Councils on Aging, and educational institutions, offering our new FREE program: an LGBTQ & A

This is simply the creation of a safe space for questions for an hour or two, wherein grandparents and other seniors can feel comfortable asking about unfamiliar pronouns or how best to support and affirm an LGBTQ+ loved one.

BayPath Elder Services, Inc.’s mission is to be a trusted partner in providing an array of services and programs to older adults, caregivers and persons with disabilities to support their independence and dignity.

As part of that mission, BayPath strives to provide the very best information, resources and supports to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) older adults and their allies living in MetroWest.

In 2017 and again in 2019, BayPath received a grants from the MetroWest Health Foundation to help build a sustainable relationship with the MetroWest LGBTQ+ older adult community in order to improve access to LGBTQ+ inclusive and informed health, mental health, and other information, resources, and services.

The resulting LGBTQ+ Initiative seeks to provide outreach to LGBTQ+ older adults, families and caregivers, community agencies, allies, businesses and individuals in order to establish BayPath as an LGBTQ+ informed and inclusive place to find support, information and resources for health and well-being.
Presented by BayPath Elder Services, Inc.  in collaboration with Framingham State University, this free inter-generational banquet celebrates the LGBTQ+ community with a buffet-style dinner along with presentations from relevant speakers and other delightful entertainment and conversation.

Typically held in October, stay tuned for more details regarding 2021!

Coffee & Celebration
LGBTQ+ seniors face the typical challenges of aging; however, because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity they are at higher risk for abuse, isolation, discrimination and exploitation.

Fearful of mistreatment, LGBTQ+ seniors are five times less likely to access services than non-LGBT seniors. Moreover, many of these LGBTQ+ seniors are estranged from their family of origin, and do not have children, so they are facing the challenges of aging without supports that many people take for granted.

BayPath's LGBTQ+ Initiative has staff available to answer questions, provide information and referrals, and offer programs and events to LGBTQ+ older adults, their family members, and local professionals in MetroWest.

Take your lunch hour at the virtual Pathways Cafe!

Our launch into online gatherings went well on April 22, 2020 with nine people joining us to chat in our virtual Pathways Café.

It was BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch), and we got to see some of our friends who live farther away, and learn how some of our colleagues are making other new online spaces for LGBTQ+ people.
